Matt Schmitt joined the Duquesne coaching staff in 2025 after graduating with a degree in Marketing from the Bluff. A three-year member of the Dukes roster, he saw action at wide receiver and on special teams.
The son of head coach Jerry Schmitt, Matt serves as Defensive Quality Control and Assistant Linebackers Coach for the second straight season in 2026. In his first season on staff, Schmitt helped coach two linebackers to Second Team All-NEC honors. The defensive unit ranked first in the NEC in rushing defense and second in total defense, recorded 14 takeaways, had at least one takeaway in 11 of 12 games, and scored three defensive touchdowns.
He is a graduate of nearby Central Catholic High School.
