Pittsburgh, Pa. -
Director of Athletics Brian Colleary announced today that Nick Gannelli has accepted the position of strength and conditioning coach at Duquesne University.
Gannelli comes to Duquesne after spending a year and a half as strength and conditioning coach at Wayne State University in Detroit. He will be responsible for all aspects of the strength and conditioning programs for Duquesne's 20 varsity sports.
"We are very happy to have Nick as a member of our staff," said Colleary. "He has the experience of starting a program from the ground up which is invaluable. He will be an asset to the student-athletes in all of our programs."
Gannelli, who developed and implemented a comprehensive program at Wayne State as the school's first strength and conditioning coach, served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at the University of Cincinnati in the summer and fall of 2002. Prior to that, he spent two years with the United States Military Academy working primarily with the men's basketball and men's lacrosse teams while assisting in all 15 Black Knights' programs.
The Cincinnati, Ohio native earned his bachelor's degree in exercise/health from the University of Toledo in 1999, where he served as a graduate assistant from 1997-99.
Gannelli served four years of active duty as a platoon/squad leader with the United States Marine Corps (1991-95) and spent an additional three years as a platoon sergeant with the U.S. Marine Corp Reserves (1996-98).
