Six Dukes Named Academic All-Conference

Six Duquesne University student-athletes were named to the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference teams for the sports of indoor track and field and swimming and diving. Leading the list is senior Shea McMillan (Pittsburgh, PA / Mt. Lebanon), who was also named the A-10 Student-Athlete of the Year for indoor track. Joining her are junior teammates Alison Buchanan (Ravenna, OH / St. Thomas Aquinas) and Sarah Fetterman (Elysburg, PA / Southern Columbia) as well as women's swimmers junior Deidre Rodeheaver (Danville, PA / Danville) and sophomore Jillian Rupinski (Harrison City, PA / Penn-Trafford) and men's swimmer sophomore Doug Yeager (Dallas, PA / Dallas).

McMillan took the bronze medal in the triple jump at the 2004 Atlantic 10 Championship with a school record jump of 39' 0.25', qualifying her for the ECAC Championship. She also holds Duquesne's top times in the 55m (7.37) and 60m (8.02) dashes this season. A finance major with a 3.77 grade point average, she was a 2003 Verizon District 2 Cross Country/Track Academic All-American and earned indoor and outdoor Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference status in 2001-02 and 2002-03.

Buchanan, who boasts a 3.70 gpa in physical therapy, helped Duquesne capture a gold medal in the 4x800m relay at A-10's. She helped the Dukes post DU season-best times in this event as well as the distance medley relay. In addition, she placed sixth in the 1000m event, turning in Duquesne's second fastest time of the season. Fetterman is a pharmacy major with a 3.98 grade point average. She won the silver medal in the pole vault at the Atlantic 10 Championship and improved her own school record at the Bucknell Octagonal. Duquesne's top pole-vaulter the past two seasons, she took bronze at the 2002-03 A-10 Indoor Championship and was named to the 2003-03 A-10 Academic Team as well.

Fetterman is a pharmacy major with a 3.98 grade point average. She won the silver medal in the pole vault at the Atlantic 10 Championship and improved her own school record at the Bucknell Octagonal. Duquesne's top pole-vaulter the past two seasons, she took bronze at the 2002-03 A-10 Indoor Championship and was named to the 2003-03 A-10 Academic Team as well.

Rodeheaver was also named for a second straight year after posting a 3.82 gpa in accounting. She currently holds six school records, four of which were set this season. She set the 50 and 100-yard freestyle records and helped set the 400 free relay record at the Akron Invitational while helping set the 200 free relay record at the Atlantic 10 Championship. In addition she is partial holder of the 200 medley relay and 800 free relay records set at last year's A-10's.

Rupinski set a school record in the 100-yard breaststroke at the Atlantic 10 Championship, placing fourth, while also turning in Duquesne's best time of the season in the 200-breast at the Akron Invitational. An elementary education major with a 3.80 gpa, she also partially holds the school records for the 200 and 400 medley relays, set at last year's A-10's.

Yeager participated in eight different events for Duquesne this season. He set personal best times in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke events this year, placing 14th and 15th respectively at the Atlantic 10 Championship. He also helped set Duquesne's best time of the season in the 200 medley relay at the Akron Invitational. Yeager is a pharmacy major with a 3.45 grade point average.
