Washington, D.C.– Freshman right side
Simone Searles of the Duquesne volleyball team was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week, as announced by the league office Monday.
Searles helped the Dukes extend their winning streak to five consecutive matches while opening Atlantic 10 play with a pair of victories over Fordham. The Pittsburgh native averaged 4.67 points, 4.22 kills and 2.44 digs per set while hitting .375 over the weekend. She totaled 38 kills, 22 digs and eight blocks across the two matches.
The freshman opened the weekend with her third double-double of the season, recording 18 kills and 11 digs while hitting .344 in a five-set victory over the Rams on Friday night. She also added a pair of block assists in the win. Searles followed with another double-double Saturday afternoon, registering a season-high 20 kills and 11 digs while hitting .400 in a 3-1 victory over Fordham. She added six block assists to finish the weekend with eight total blocks.
The Pittsburgh native continues to rank among the Atlantic 10's top performers, leading the conference with a .353 hitting percentage. She ranks third in the league in points per set (4.36) and kills per set (3.77), while sitting fourth in total points (205.0) and sixth in total kills (177). Searles has recorded four double-doubles this season and reached double figures in kills in 10 matches. She has led the Dukes in kills five times while also registering double-digit digs in four matches.
The freshman right side collects her third A10 Rookie of the Week honor of the season.
