Waco, Texas – The No. 9 Duquesne University acrobatics and tumbling team traveled to face No. 1 Baylor in a top-10 National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association (NCATA) matchup Saturday evening inside the Ferrell Center. The 10-time defending national champion Bears won the meet, 278.300–255.030.
Duquesne posted three heats of 9.70 or better, beginning with a 9.70 in Compulsory Pyramid from
Georgia Clancy,
Alia Ellis,
Natalie Angland,
McKenna Fisher,
Caileigh Kertis,
Morgan Shaffer,
Carly Longenecker,
Mireya Maymi,
Briella Unger,
Taylor Wallace,
Abby McDermott and
Addie Wright.
The Dukes followed with a 9.75 in the Five-Element Acro heat by Longenecker, Ellis, Wallace and Kertis, before delivering a meet-high 9.85 in the Inversion Pyramid. That unit featured
Jamie Bray, Ellis, McDermott, Kertis,
Mia Dipner,
Genevieve Muise and
Clare Frantti.
Pyramid led the way for Duquesne with a 29.15 out of 30 and just 0.85 in total deductions. Back-to-back 9.65's in the Synchronized and Open heats followed the 9.85 in Inversion, which has now scored 9.85 or better in four straight meets.
In the second half, Duquesne recorded a program-best score in the Quad Pass as Frantti,
Sienna Johnson,
Sarah Golie and
Lindsay Kivlan posted a 7.850 out of 8.75. The Dukes then closed the tumbling event with three 9-plus scores in the individual passes.
Claire Piper scored a 9.200 out of 9.55 in the Aerial Pass, while Unger added a 9.350 out of 9.75 in the Six-Element Pass. Kivlan followed with a 9.250 out of 9.55 in the Open Pass to complete the event.
Duquesne finished the meet with an 85.58 in the Team Event, marking its second-highest team score of the season.
UP NEXT
Duquesne returns home Thursday, April 9 to host La Salle for Senior Day at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse. The meet is scheduled for 6 p.m., admission is free, and it will be streamed on ESPN+.
