Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University women's soccer team concluded its 2025 non-conference slate Sunday, posting a 2-2 draw with Eastern Kentucky in Lexington, Ky., at Lexington Sporting Club. The Dukes, who snapped a nine-game home winning streak for the Colonels, enter Atlantic 10 play with an overall record of 5-2-1 (.688).
POINTS OF EMPHASIS
On the attack the entire first half, the Dukes were able to grab a 2-0 advantage at the break, with pressure on the goalkeeper giving Duquesne its first goal. Jordan LeVasseur was looking to clear, but senior forward
Brianna Moore rushed the box. The kick from LeVasseur was blocked by Moore, with the ball trickling its way into the back corner of the net at 18:07 to give the Dukes a 1-0 lead. The lead was extended to 2-0 for Duquesne seven-and-a-half minutes later on a set piece. On a corner kick for the Dukes, one of 16 in the contest, the defense for EKU (5-1-2) punched the ball out of the box, but senior forward
Mackenzie Muir was in position, corralling the ball before placing a chip shot into the upper left corner of the goal at 25:36.
FLIPPING THE SCRIPT
While Duquesne held the tempo in the first half, the Colonels gained control in the second half. Eastern Kentucky trimmed its deficit in half, 2-1, at 61:31, when Avery May fed Maddie Murphy, who scored with her left foot in the bottom left of the goal. The Colonels kept up the momentum, finding the equalizer with just over 15 minutes to go. This time it was Ella Grode, who scored in the bottom right of the frame after taking a pass from Ana Manning at 73:36. It marked the team-high sixth goal of the 2025 season for Grode.
PACE
Even with the Eastern Kentucky knotting the contest, the Dukes continued pushing, outshooting the Colonels, 8-1, in the final 13 minutes of action. Duquesne finished with 39 shots in the contest, matching a single-game record that was originally established in the program's first NCAA Division I match, a 9-1 triumph over Robert Morris (9/2/95) at Rooney Field. Of the 39 shots for the Dukes, 20 were on goal, with LeVasseur tying an EKU single-game mark with 18 saves. Four different players finished with at least five shots Sunday, while another three registered a trio of attempts. Leading the way was Moore, who posted nine shots, including seven on frame, while Muir and senior forward
