Duquesne Downs St. Bonaventure in A-10 Opener

Dukes improve to 17-9-5 all-time in conference openers

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University men's soccer team opened a three-game homestand at Rooney Field Sunday, earning a 3-1 victory over St. Bonaventure in the Atlantic 10 opener for both programs. The Dukes improved to 4-0-2 (.833) overall during the 2025 season.

POINTS OF EMPHASIS
Duquesne pocketed the only goal of the first half at the 15-minute mark, using a head start to get on the board. On the rush, senior forward Dakota Jonke lifted the ball into the box, with senior midfielder Grant McIntosh providing a header toward the far side of the goal. Redshirt junior Jaxon Ervin found placement, heading the ball into the net to give the Dukes a 1-0 lead they would take into halftime.

QUICK STRIKE
A pair of goals 44 seconds apart early in the second half propelled Duquesne, with the first one proving to be the game winner. Ervin provided a cross into the box off a corner kick, which found Ashwin Menon. The header for the redshirt junior found the back of the net as Menon collected his first career NCAA Division I goal at 58:31. Duquesne was on the attack again less than a minute later, with Menon feeding sophomore midfielder Miles Imparto, who converted at 59:15 to push the advantage to 3-0. Less than 10 minutes later the Bonnies replaced goalkeeper Felix Schöne, who finished with a pair of saves in just under 69 minutes of action.

QUOTABLE
"I think we responded well," head coach Chase Brooks. "It's always big to get three points in this conference, and we know it's massive to take care of your home games. We did that today. I give our guys a lot of credit. It's sticking to the principles and understanding who we are as a collective. It's one of those games where you see a team that is finding ways to score goals and score goals in different ways. That's a big deal. We don't really have one superstar, necessarily, but we have a good collective and a good group of guys."

QUOTABLE
"(Alex) plays older than he is," Brooks said. "The experience, he plays like a veteran. That's the biggest thing for him. You can count on him to be there. He's going to do things right most of the time, which is all you can ask for. It's just making sure you're executing to your principles, and I think he's done that for us."
