WASHINGTON – Duquesne freshman
Louie Liberatore was named the Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Week for men's track and field on Tuesday.
A Canonsburg, Pa., native, Liberatore placed third in the javelin at Carnegie Mellon with a throw of 60.02 meters (196 feet, 11 inches). The mark ranks second in program history and qualifies him for the USATF Under-20 Championships in June.
In his collegiate debut at Charlotte, Liberatore recorded a mark of 56.44 meters (185-2), which at the time was the second-best throw in Duquesne history before he surpassed it last weekend at Carnegie Mellon.
He currently ranks second in the Atlantic 10 in javelin and ninth in the NCAA Division I Mid-Atlantic Region.
The Dukes will compete Friday and Saturday at George Mason's Dalton Ebanks Invitational in Fairfax, Virginia.
