Dukes Roll to 3–0 Start, Down Missouri State

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – No. 15 Duquesne acrobatics & tumbling continued its historic start with a dominant 254.215-140.375 victory over Missouri State on Saturday evening at the Hammons Student Center, improving to 3-0 in its inaugural season.

The Dukes won 18 of 19 heats and all six events, recording their highest final score of the season.

Duquesne posted season-high scores in the compulsory (36.65) and toss (26.30) events, opening the meet with three consecutive season bests. The Dukes recorded their first nine-plus score in the compulsory acro with a 9.05 from Sienna Johnson, Alaina Baumgartner, McKenna Fisher, Abby McDermott, Michela Del Rosso, Mireya Maymi, Taylor Wallace, and Mia Dipner. They followed with a meet-best 9.85 in the compulsory pyramid, powered by Carly Longenecker, Alia Ellis, Natalie Angland, Taylor Hollis, Genevieve Muise, Madeline Hollingsworth, Fisher, McDermott, Del Rosso, Maymi, Wallace, and Dipner. Duquesne capped the strong start with a 9.70 in the compulsory toss, featuring Anna Trent, Abby Eberle, Briella Unger, Claire Piper, Dipner, Ellis, Johnson, Angland, Muise, and Hollingsworth.

After building a double-digit lead following the compulsory event, the Dukes never looked back. Longenecker, Ellis, McDermott, and Hollis led the way in the acro event with a 9.40 in the five-element heat, helping Duquesne outscore Missouri State 26.55-22.25.

In the pyramid event, Rebekah Hendley, Fisher, Dipner, Ellis, and McDermott highlighted the session with a 9.55 in the open heat, extending DU's advantage to 89.75-74.20 at halftime.

The Dukes' season-high toss total of 26.30 came out of a possible 27.40 points. The event included an 8.75 out of 9.00 in the 450 salto from Eberle, Unger, Piper, Muise, and Hollingsworth; an 8.50 out of 9.00 in the synchronized toss by Johnson, Trent, Angland, Dipner, Ellis, Eberle, Unger, Piper, Muise, and Hollingsworth; and a 9.05 out of 9.40 in the open toss from Johnson, Trent, Angland, Dipner, and Ellis.

Duquesne added another 10-point edge in tumbling, outscoring the Bears 51.875-41.025. Unger led the way with a 9.475 (out of 9.75) in the six-element pass, while Johnson scored a 9.250 (out of 9.55) in the aerial pass, and Piper earned a 9.00 (out of 9.55) in the open pass.

The Dukes sealed the win with an 86.29 out of 100.10 in the team event. Missouri State did not compete in the team event.

UP NEXT
Duquesne will finish a three-meet road trip on Monday, March 3, at No. 8 Iona. Start time is set for 6 p.m. in New Rochelle, N.Y. The next home meet will be Tuesday, March 11 at 6 p.m. against No. 1 Baylor inside the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.
