PITTSBURGH – After an impressive debut in Duquesne's inaugural meet,
Mia Dipner has been named the National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association (NCATA) Freshman of the Week.
Dipner, a Pittsburgh native and Seneca Valley graduate, competed in a team-leading 10 heats and the team event, helping Duquesne earn a statement victory over No. 3 Gannon in the program's first-ever competition. The freshman base was a key contributor to the Dukes' three highest-scoring heats — compulsory pyramid (9.65), inversion pyramid (9.65), and open pyramid (9.65).
A participant in all three pyramid heats, Dipner helped Duquesne claim the pyramid event victory, 28.6-28.2, over Gannon. She also played a pivotal role in a 9.9-level pyramid during the team event, which contributed to the Dukes' overall score of 87.41, a decisive factor in the win.
Duquesne returns to action this weekend, traveling to West Liberty for a 3 p.m. matchup on Saturday, kicking off a three-meet road trip. The Dukes will be back home on Tuesday, March 11, to host Baylor at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.
