Boise, Idaho – The Duquesne University men's basketball team opened a two-game road trip Wednesday, falling to Boise State, 86-64, at ExtraMile Arena. The Dukes dipped to 6-4 (.600) overall during the 2025-26 season.
POINTS OF EMPHASIS
Pearson Carmichael scored 19 of his career-high 26 points in the first half to bolster the Broncos, who finished 12-for-21 (57.1%) from beyond the arc in the victory. Entering the contest 9-for-30 on the year from deep, Carmichael finished 5-for-6 from long range in the opening 20 minutes and closed 6-for-8 from three overall. Duquesne fell behind, 34-19, with 6:06 to go in the first half but was able to close its deficit to 39-30 with just 1:54 left before halftime after junior guard
Jimmie Williams was fouled on a three-point attempt. He hit all three of his chances at the stripe, but Carmichael buried a pair of triples in the final 1:10 of the opening 20 minutes, part of a stretch in which he scored the final 11 points of the stanza for the Broncos, to give Boise State (7-3) a 45-30 edge at the break.
QUOTABLE
"It's a tough place to win," head coach
Dru Joyce III said. "They don't lose very often at home, and that's gone on for years. Defensively, when you're on the road you don't want to give up 45 points in the first half. You're just not helping yourself. We have to adhere to the scout. We allow a guy who is a huge catch-and-shoot threat to continue to shoot three's, you're going to pay for it. We had some stints in the second half where we got better, but we couldn't quite put together a rhythm to claw back into the game. We knew this trip wasn't going to be easy. We have to find a way to stick together and find a way to put together two really good halves as we look to Saturday."
INSIDE OUT
While Carmichael finished 10-of-13 from the floor for the Broncos, forward Drew Felder was the factor on the inside for Boise State, contributing 23 points. He was successful on both of his attempts from deep and finished 8-of-13 overall as the Broncos shot 46.7 percent (28-for-60) and owned a 38-29 advantage on the glass. Despite the effort of Felder, Duquesne held the advantage in points in the paint, outscoring Boise State, 36-28. Four Dukes finished in double figures, led by junior forward
Jakub Nečas, who for the second consecutive game fell a rebound shy of his first career double-double. He scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds while also blocking a pair of shots as Duquesne registered a season-high six rejections.
QUOTABLE
"Jak continues to find his way to play hard," Joyce III said. "He's going to give you his all-out best every single time, and that's what we want from our guys. Win or lose you can live with those results if you have a guy who is playing as hard as he possibly can. He's producing, too. He made good reads, made shots and he's continuing to put together good basketball games."
