Dukes Soar at St. Bonaventure

Victory clinches berth for Duquesne in 2025 Atlantic 10 Championship

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University women's soccer team capped the road portion of its 2025 regular season Thursday with a 5-1 victory in Olean, N.Y., over St. Bonaventure at Tom and Michelle Mara Athletic Field Complex. In securing a spot in the 2025 Atlantic 10 Championship thanks to the win, the Dukes improved to 11-5-1 (.676) overall, including 6-3 (.667) in conference play.

POINTS OF EMPHASIS
Tied, 1-1, in the first half, Duquesne took control with a pair of quick strikes separated by a minute and 19 seconds. Senior Mackenzie Muir supplied the first, taking a pass from junior forward Kayla Leseck before slipping a shot past St. Bonaventure (3-12-2 | 0-9-0 Atlantic 10) goalkeeper Adelaide Paredes and into the left corner of the goal at 24:18. Just over a minute later senior forward Maya Matesa was at it again, supplying the pressure she has become accustomed to on opposing keepers that led to another score. Leseck again provided the perfect pass that got behind the defense. Matesa was left alone for the one-on-one opportunity, with Paredes racing out to try and block the shot. A quick move to the right for Matesa left her with open real estate, and she buried her 15th goal of the season, a total that leads the Atlantic 10, at 25:37.

START ME UP
Duquesne grabbed the early lead just under four minutes into the contest courtesy of junior forward Kaitlyn Killinger. Reminiscent of her goal in a 1-0 win over George Mason (10/5) on Senior Day, Killinger worked down the far side, slipped away from her defender and chipped a shot off her left foot that sailed over the head of Paredes to give the Dukes the early lead at 3:48. The Bonnies were able to secure the equalizer at 14:17, when Ekemini Udofa found the back of the net for the second time this season to tie the contest, 1-1.

INSURANCE ROCKET
St. Bonaventure was able to keep it a two-goal contest the majority of the second half, but Duquesne was able to find the insurance goal at 80:16. The Bonnies were looking to clear, but junior Anna Bundy knocked the ball down, settled and from just outside the top of the box fired a shot that hit the crossbar and went into the back of the net to push the advantage for the Dukes to 4-1. It marked the first strike for the junior midfielder since her rookie campaign in 2023 as Bundy became the 10th different student-athlete for Duquesne this season to score a goal.

NOTES
Leseck finished with a pair of assists for Duquesne in the victory Thursday and leads the team this season with six, a total that is tied atop the rankings in the Atlantic 10 with five other student-athletes across the conference … The 11 wins for the Dukes is the most since the 2017 squad also won 11 games … Freshman Claire Highland earned her first start at the NCAA Division I level Thursday and played a full 90 minutes along with senior Lindsay Krafchick and junior Reagan Basehore on the backline and midfielder Jayden Sharpless … The final goal of the contest for Duquesne came at 86:45 and was an own goal by the Bonnies … The Dukes held a 18-4 cushion in shots, including 10-1 on net … Duquesne also owned a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks … The Dukes have tallied 98 points this season, just six shy of matching the single-season standard of 104 that was set in 2004.

UP NEXT
The regular-season finale for Duquesne comes at Rooney Field, as the Dukes will host La Salle Sunday, Oct. 26, in a 1:30 p.m. start. Currently in third place in the Atlantic 10 standings with 18 points, Duquesne is a point ahead of Rhode Island and three in front of Loyola Chicago. A victory assures the Dukes of a home game in the 2025 Atlantic 10 Championship, while the Rams host Dayton Sunday and the Ramblers visit Saint Louis.
