Washington, D.C. – Senior outside hitter
Carsyn Henschen of the Duquesne University volleyball team was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week after her performance this past weekend, announced by the league office on Monday.
A native of New Knoxville, Ohio, Henschen played a pivotal role in helping the Dukes snap their five-match skid, powering Duquesne to a pair of road victories over the weekend. She averaged 4.50 points, 4.00 kills, and 1.00 block per set while hitting an impressive .418 across the two matches. She totaled 28.0 points, 23 kills, and 9.0 total blocks in the sweep of the weekend series.
Henschen opened the weekend by leading the Dukes with 18 kills, four blocks, and a .485 hitting percentage in a 3-1 win at Fordham. She did much of her damage in the third set, registering eight kills on a .538 clip after opening the match with five kills in the first frame. The senior followed that performance with 10 kills, three blocks, three digs, and a .318 hitting percentage in a 3-0 sweep to close out the series.
The Ohio native is averaging just under three kills per set this season and currently ranks second on the team with 186 total kills. Entering Tuesday's match, the senior outside hitter is on the verge of a major career milestone, needing just six more kills to surpass the 1,000-kill mark. She has recorded 994 career kills and posted nine matches with double-digit kills this season.
Henschen becomes the second Duke this season to earn Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honors, marking the first time since 2014 that Duquesne has had multiple Player of the Week honorees in the same season.
