Ramblers Top Dukes In Straight Sets

Chicago, Ill. – The Dukes continued their road swing on Saturday afternoon, falling to Loyola Chicago in straight sets inside Gentile Arena. With the loss, the Duquesne volleyball team drops to 9-9 overall and 1-6 in Atlantic 10 action.

POINT OF EMPHASIS
In the opening set, the Ramblers jumped out to an early 4-0 lead before the Dukes responded with six straight points to take control. Senior Carsyn Henschen and sophomores Mirabella Iriarte and Emersen Schrom each recorded kills during the run. A service ace from Schrom extended Duquesne's advantage to 10-8, but Loyola Chicago answered with an 8-3 surge to reclaim a 16-13 lead. The Dukes battled back, scoring five of the next six points to move ahead 18-17, fueled by kills from senior Ariel Helm and Schrom, along with three Rambler errors. Loyola Chicago later edged ahead 23-21 on a kill from Karli Molnau, but a Rambler error and a strong swing from Helm evened the score at 23-all. A kill from Avary DeBlieck and a block by Kaitlyn Burke and DeBlieck sealed the 25-23 opening-set victory for the Ramblers

FRAME THREE
Loyola Chicago took a 2-0 lead in the match after hitting an impressive .423 with 14 kills to secure a 25-15 victory in the second set. The third frame featured seven ties and three lead changes as the teams traded the first 14 points. Later in the set, senior Helm delivered a kill to cut the deficit to 11-9, but the Ramblers responded with a 9-3 run to build a 20-12 advantage. Duquesne continued to battle, narrowing the gap to 23-18 after scoring six of the next nine points. Helm led the charge with two kills and a block, while Henschen and Schrom each added a kill. The Dukes pulled within 24-20 before Kaitlyn Burke closed out the match for the Ramblers.

INSIDE THE STAT SHEET
Emersen Schrom led the Dukes with nine kills, nine digs, one block, and one ace, while Ariel Helm added eight kills, three total blocks, and a .333 hitting percentage. Carsyn Henschen contributed six kills and three digs, and junior Chloe Wilmot posted 24 assists, five digs, and four total blocks. Seniors Maggie Colenbrander and Madison Grimm each chipped in with five digs.

Duquesne returns to action when it travels to Bronx, N.Y. to battle Fordham on Friday, Oct. 17 and Saturday, Oct. 18 for a pair of conference matches.
