Dukes To Open 2025 Season at Pitt

PITTSBURGH — Duquesne University and the University of Pittsburgh will meet on the gridiron for the first time since 1939 to open the 2025 season, the programs announced this afternoon. Scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 30, at Acrisure Stadium, the City Game will kick off the 98th season of Duquesne football.

The game will mark the eighth all-time meeting between the programs and first since 1939. Pitt holds a 5-2 series lead in a matchup that dates to 1901. The Dukes won the last meeting, 21-13.

Duquesne shared the Northeast Conference (NEC) regular-season title in 2024, finishing 8-3 overall and 5-1 in conference play. The Dukes, members of the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) since 1993, hold a 225-117 record over 32 seasons at the FCS level. The program has won 18 conference championships across the MAAC and NEC since 1995 and made three trips to the FCS playoffs.

Pitt, an NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) program, finished the 2024 season with a 7-6 record, including a 3-5 mark in Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) play.

The Panthers will be the 12th FBS opponent in Duquesne history. The Dukes are 1-10 all-time against FBS teams, including a 28-26 victory over Ohio in 2021. Pitt will be the third ACC opponent for Duquesne, following matchups with Florida State in 2022 and Boston College in 2024.

The 2025 opener will be Duquesne's sixth season-opening game against an FBS opponent and fourth in the past five years (2014, 2018, 2021, 2022, 2024, 2025).

Game time and the full 2025 Duquesne football schedule will be announced at a later date.
