Dukes Stretch Win Streak to Four with Victory Over RMU

Duquesne goes 3-0 over the weekend; Floyd cards career-high in kills

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University volleyball team concluded play at the Chick-fil-A Robinson Classic on Saturday afternoon, downing Robert Morris 3-1, inside the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse. With the win, the Dukes stretch its win streak to four straight while improving to 5-1 on the season.

POINT OF EMPHASIS
Duquesne got off to a hot start in set one, using a .367 hitting percentage and 13 kills to grab a 25-17 win. The Dukes jumped out to a 9-4 advantage where it saw four different players register a kill. The two squads would trade the next 10 points before the Dukes mounted a 7-5 stint to take a 21-14 advantage. Senior Madison Floyd paced the charge with a pair of successful swings while juniors Carsyn Henschen and Ariel Helm each registered a point. After a kill from RMU, graduate student Elizabeth Drelling and Floyd netted three of the final four points to help the Dukes take the opening set.

KEEP ON ROLLING
It was a back-and-forth start in the second stanza as both squads traded the first 10 points. Duquesne changed the momentum as they strung together a 7-2 burst to claim a 12-7 lead and forced a Colonial timeout. Henschen paced the stint by finding the floor successfully three times as Drelling collected a successful swing. Out of the break, the Dukes would net 11 of the next 17 points to grab its largest lead of the afternoon, 23-13. Floyd and Henschen each totaled a pair of kills while Drelling and Helm found the floor successfully. Duquesne would take advantage of four RMU miscues during the run.

BOUNCE BACK
After an entertaining third set which featured (ties and lead changes), RMU ended up capturing a 32-30 victory to trail 2-1 in the match. In the final stanza, the Dukes tallied an 11-4 advantage, thanks to a pair of kills from Floyd and freshman Emersen Schrom. Duquesne continued to put the pressure on the Colonials as they scored nine of the next 14 points to stretch its lead, 20-9. RMU didn't shy away as it strung together a 10-1 stint which cut the deficit to 21-19. The Dukes got back on track as they scored four of the final six points to take the set 25-21 and the match 3-1. Henschen and sophomore Avery Hobson both registered kills in the run.

INSIDE THE STAT SHEET
Duquesne was led by Floyd and Henschen who both recorded 15 kills. The 15 successful swings in Floyds career-high as well as her impressive hitting percentage of .700. She ended with 3.5 blocks and two digs while Henschen carded a .458 hitting percentage and three digs in the win. Schrom was the third Duke in double-figures, carding her four straight game with 10+ kills. She ended with 10 kills while Hobson led the team with 13 digs and nine kills. Graduate student Grace Kristofic controlled the offense, carding 27 assists, five digs, and two aces while sophomore Chloe Wilmot posted her second double-double of the season, with 26 assists and 11 digs, to go along with three service aces. Drelling ended the evening with 12 digs and eight for the Dukes.

UP NEXT
Duquesne hits the road as it travels to Morehead, Kentucky to compete in the Comfort Inn-Vitational on September 13-14. The Dukes open competition against host Morehead State before battling Evansville and Eastern Michigan.
