PITTSBURGH – Duquesne University triathlon standout Robyn Hunt continues to shine both academically and athletically, earning the prestigious Beard Undergraduate Scholarship. Triathlon head coach Joella Baker praised Hunt as "a true leader both on and off the field," a sentiment reinforced by this latest honor.

The Beard Scholarship, founded by two-time Duquesne graduate Dr. Eugene P. Beard, has transformed the lives of students for over two decades. With a focus on ethics and sustainability in the business world, the scholarship encourages students to expand their knowledge in these areas. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 and submit an essay reflecting on how personal and professional ethics have influenced their lives.

"I was really shocked and really happy to get this scholarship," said Hunt. "It means a lot to me. I have been working hard to have these opportunities, so that I actually got one of them is really nice."

Hunt is an active leader within the Duquesne community. In addition to excelling in the classroom as an honorable mention CTCA Scholar All-American with a 3.92 GPA in Finance, she serves as a resident assistant (RA) and is a member of the student-athlete advisory committee (SAAC). As a competitor, she has consistently led the Duquesne triathlon team, finishing as the top athlete in five out of six events last season including at the program's first national championships. Hunt finished 2023 ranked 66th individually in NCAA Triathlon.

"I am incredibly proud of Robyn," said Coach Baker. "Last year, as a freshman, she won the SAAC Student Engagement Award for her dedication to student-athletes across campus. From the moment she joined the triathlon team, she's been a leader—whether helping teammates or setting a strong example with her kindness and charitable attitude. Robyn is a positive influence on everyone she meets and is truly deserving of this scholarship."

Hunt learned she was a finalist for the scholarship in July and, after a series of interviews, was awarded the honor in late August.

"Duquesne has been super supportive," said Hunt. "Being a part of SAAC, it helped me create leadership aspects of my life and give me more opportunities. Now I'm putting them to the fullest use."

Hunt's leadership extends beyond this latest accolade. Last spring, she received the Duquesne Athletics Leadership Award, which honors a student-athlete who exemplifies leadership principles and is an outstanding representative of DU Athletics, specifically as a member of SAAC.
