Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University men's soccer team stayed unbeaten Tuesday, battling to a 1-1 draw at No. 23 Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., at Alumni Stadium. The Dukes own a 4-0-1 (.900) record through five matches of the 2024 campaign.
POINTS OF EMPHASIS
Scoreless through 45 minutes, the Fighting Irish broke through at 64:54, when Nolan Spicer fired a shot off his left foot on a feed from Bryce Boneau that found the far left corner of the net, giving Notre Dame a 1-0 advantage. Duquesne had mustered just two shots, both courtesy of redshirt sophomore
Jaxon Ervin, before a late yellow card allowed the Dukes a chance at the equalizer. Sean McDowd garnered the card for Notre Dame (1-0-3), allowing junior forward
Dakota Jonke a chance for a penalty kick. He scored from the spot, sending it past Blake Kelly to tie the score, 1-1.

Zoltan Nagy was again crucial for Duquesne Tuesday, as despite allowing his first goal in over 250 minutes matched a season-high in saves for the second consecutive game with seven. The two-time reigning Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week, Nagy has faced 36 shots over the last two matches, including 15 on goal, and has kept the Dukes unbeaten through five contests for the second time in the last three years.

Duquesne traveled to South Bend nationally ranked for the first time during the 2024 season, as the Dukes are ranked 22nd according to
Top Drawer Soccer. The Fighting Irish, meanwhile, entered the game No. 23 in the latest
United Soccer Coaches poll, with Duquesne improving to 1-9-2 (.167) all-time against ranked foes with the draw. The Dukes had dropped six consecutive games against a ranked opponent since a 3-1 win over No. 23 Rhode Island at Rooney Field Oct. 20, 2018. The other tie in program history against ranked opposition came Sept. 29, 2010, with a scoreless draw against No. 21 West Virginia in two overtimes, also at Rooney Field.
