Couldn't Stand The Weather – Duquesne has battled Mother Nature much of the spring in preparation for the Atlantic 10 Championships, with the Pittsburgh region receiving almost eight inches of rain during the month of April as the city has never had a wetter start to the spring season on record. During two days during the month, April 3 and April 12, Pittsburgh received over two inches of rain. The weather has wreaked havoc on the Dukes, who couldn't consistently get water time for practice and had a competition at Bucknell canceled.
Â
Captain Oh Captain – Duquesne has been led by four student-athletes serving as captain for the 2023-24 season, including seniors
Isabella Abbott,
Julia Laurie,
Hannah Valenty and
Britta Wheeler. The quartet have been key in helping the Dukes develop during a campaign that has seen Duquesne claim the
United States Steel Cup at the Head of the Ohio as well as
win the Yinzer Cup for the third consecutive season. The quartet also accepted the
Bluff Cup at the 2024 Dukes Awards Show, which is given out annually to the Duquesne athletic program that demonstrates outstanding service, support and participation in the community. The Dukes won the award for the second consecutive year.
