PHILADELPHIA -- The Duquesne University lacrosse team suffered a 17-5 loss at Saint Joseph's on Saturday afternoon in Atlantic 10 action.
The Dukes tallied back-to-back free position goals by
Corinne Webb and
Lizzie Cleary in the last two minutes of the first quarter to narrow the early deficit to 3-2. Saint Joseph's answered by scoring the next 13 goals to take command of the contest, holding Duquesne off the board until the seven minute mark of the fourth quarter.
Junior midfielder
Mackenzie Leszczynski broke the scoring drought with her 100th career goal. Leszczynski led the Dukes with seven shots, six of which on frame. She has now scored in 15 consecutive games and is up to a team-leading 33 goals on the season.
Emma Raines added a goal with five minutes to play and Cleary, a freshman, recorded her second career multi-goal game with a second free position score with 22 seconds left.
Duquesne finished 3-for-5 from the free position, paced by Cleary who converted on both of her attempts.
Rachel O'Toole started and made nine saves in net for the Dukes, tying a season high.
Megan LaBorne finished the final 16+ minutes.
Hanna Pawela scooped up a game-high seven ground balls and extended her NCAA Division I lead in caused turnovers with three.
UP NEXT
Duquesne will conclude its regular season with a home game against Davidson next Saturday (Apr. 27). First draw is scheduled for 12 pm at Rooney Field.
