PITTSBURGH – The Duquesne University lacrosse team dropped a mutual season opener Friday evening at Highmark Stadium against Pitt by a score of 20-2.
 
The Panthers jumped out in front with three goals in the first six minutes and never looked back. 
 
Corinne Webb got the Dukes on the board late in the first quarter to make it 3-1 after the opening 15 minutes. Webb came from behind the net and snuck her shot into the top-left corner, scoring in her first game back from injury after missing the 2023 season.
 
Pitt took control of the contest with an 8-0 second quarter, then continued its roll outscoring the Dukes 9-1 in the second half. The Panthers totaled 41 shots (29 on goal) in the game to Duquesne's 14 shots (nine on goal). 
 
Sophomore transfer, Emma Raines added the Dukes' second goal at the 2:27 mark in the third quarter, her first score of her collegiate career, off an assist from Emelie Curtis. 
 
Rachel O'Toole got the start in goal and played 25 minutes making six saves. Megan LaBorne finished the final 35 minutes and made four saves. 
 
The Dukes fall to 0-3 all-time against Pitt and 13-15 in season openers. 
 
UP NEXT
Duquesne will host Eastern Michigan on Thursday for its home opener, the first of four straight home games for the Dukes.
