Duquesne Can't Contain Fordham

Rams use 26-7 run in second half to overtake Dukes

Bronx, N.Y. – The Duquesne University men's basketball team dropped a 79-67 decision to Fordham Friday at Rose Hill Gym. The Dukes slipped to 16-11 (.593) overall during the 2023-24 season, including 6-8 (.429) in the Atlantic 10.

POINTS OF EMPHASIS
Senior guard Jimmy Clark III gave Duquesne a 34-31 lead with a floating jumper with 18:30 remaining, but the Rams used a 26-7 run to open up a 57-41 lead with 12:18 to go that forced the Dukes to use their second timeout of the half. Fordham finished with just 10 field goals in the first half but in the first eight minutes after the break shot 12-of-16 (75%) from the floor, including 4-for-6 (66.7%) from beyond the arc. It was a balanced attack for Fordham, with Antrell Charlton, Jahmere Tripp and Kyle Rose each scoring six points.

GRAND THEFT AUTO
Forward Tre Williams reached 1,000 career points in the first half Friday against the Rams, as his layup with 5:08 to go before halftime tied the contest, 26-26. The bucket ignited an 8-0 surge to help give the Dukes a 32-26 advantage at the break as Duquesne held the Rams scoreless over the final five minutes of the stanza. Fordham closed the opening 20 minutes 0-for-3 from the field with seven turnovers during the stretch. Williams finished with eight points at Fordham and now owns 1,003 in five seasons at the NCAA Division I level, including 560 in three seasons with the Dukes. Williams is the second member of the Dukes to eclipse 1,000 career points this season, joining forward Fousseyni Drame, who also reached the mark on the road.

RECORD BREAKER (AGAIN)
Senior guard Dae Dae Grant broke his own program record for consecutive free throws Friday against the Rams. Entering the contest having knocked down 36 straight at the line, Grant finished 10-for-10 to extend his current streak to 46. Grant broke a record that had stood for over 60 years during the non-conference portion of Duquesne's 2023-24 schedule, reaching 43 consecutive free throws in an 85-72 win at Marshall. In breaking his own record, Grant has converted 118 of his last 120 opportunities at the free-throw line, a success rate of 98.3 percent.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
The duo of Rose (23) and Charlton (16) combined for 39 points for Fordham, which picked up its first Atlantic 10 victory at home in seven tries this season. Rose finished with a game-high 23 points as the duo combined to shoot 5-for-8 from the three-point line. Grant paced the Dukes with 15 points as one of three players in double figures for Duquesne. Clark III added 12 points and three steals, while Drame contributed 11 points and three steals off the bench.
