Dayton, Ohio – The Duquesne University volleyball team concluded its three-match road swing on Tuesday evening, dropping a 3-0 contest at #19 Dayton inside the Frericks Center. With the slip, the Dukes fall to 13-11 overall and 4-8 in Atlantic 10 action.
POINT OF EMPHASIS
Dayton (22-1 / 12-0) took an early 1-0 lead in the match after capturing a 25-11 victory in the opening stanza. In set two, the Flyers held a 5-1 advantage before Duquesne trimmed the deficit with a 3-1 stint. Juniors
Carsyn Henschen and
Ariel Helm sparked the run with a block, followed by a kill from graduate student
Elizabeth Drelling. After a Dayton point, Drelling found the floor successfully again to cap the stint. The Flyers responded with five consecutive points to extend its lead, 11-4. Later in the stanza, the Dukes mounted four straight points to trim the deficit, 14-11. Sophomore
Jordan Robertson started the run with a point, followed by a block from Robertson and classmate
Avery Hobson. Duquesne took advantage of Back-to-back miscues by the Flyers to end the stint. A successful swing by Helm would bring the deceit to three (18-15) but that's as close as the Dukes would get as Dayton registered seven consecutive points to take a 25-15 win.
THIRD SET
It was a back-and-forth affair to begin set three as the two teams traded the first 12 points. The Flyers would open things up after stringing together a 9-1 run to hold a 15-7 advantage. Duquesne would counter with three straight points of its own to cut the deficit, thanks to kills from Drelling and freshman
Emersen Schrom while tallying a block from Hobson and Robertson. Hobson would find the floor successfully to make it 19-13 but Dayton scored six of the final seven points to take the match, 25-14.

Elizabeth Drelling led the way with nine kills and a .412 hitting percentage while
Ariel Helm and
Jordan Robertson each tallied four kills. Helm registered a .375 swing percentage and three blocks while Robertson totaled four rejections. Graduate student

Amalia Martin carded eight assists and six digs.
