Nagy Collects Third Atlantic 10 Weekly Honor

Senior goalkeeper named A-10 Defensive Player of the Week

Pittsburgh, Pa. – Senior goalkeeper Zoltan Nagy of the Duquesne University men's soccer team was named the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week Monday. It marks his third honor of the 2024 season, as he also was bestowed the plaudit in consecutive weeks in September.

In helping Duquesne tie a school record for consecutive wins (10) dating to last year at Rooney Field Saturday with a 1-0 win over Davidson, Nagy registered his fifth clean sheet of the 2024 season. He notched four saves in the win, including one at 83:30 on a shot from Vincent Bennage from point blank that kept the Dukes in front.

Nagy, who was also named the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week Sept. 2, 2024, and again Sept. 9, 2024, is the first Duquesne student-athlete in program history to earn three weekly honors in a season from the conference office.

In addition, Nagy ties four other Dukes with his third career Atlantic 10 Player of the Week accolade for the most all-time at Duquesne. Former goalkeepers Robbie McKelvey (2016-19) and Domenic Nascimben (2018-22) were each also named A-10 Defensive Player of the Week on three occasions, with McKelvey earning his first in 2018 and picking up two more a year later. Nascimben, meanwhile, was tabbed A-10 Defensive Player of the Week Sept. 20, 2021, and collected two more the following season.

On the offensive side, Damien Pottinger (2000-03), Duquesne's all-time leading scorer with 89 points, was a three-time Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honoree, including once in 2002 and twice in 2003, while Travis MacKenzie (2004-07) garnered the honor once in each of the 2005, 2006 and 2007 seasons.

Nagy has started all of Duquesne's 31 games over the last two seasons at goalkeeper and has amassed a record of 17-9-4 (.633) with 138 saves, a 1.25 goals against average and seven shutouts to go along with .784 save percentage. Through 13 matches in 2024, Nagy owns 50 saves and a 0.96 goals against average.

Led by Chase Brooks, who is in his 12th season as head coach of the Dukes in 2024, Duquesne is one of six programs in NCAA Division I with at least 10 victories. The Dukes will carry an overall mark of 10-2-1 (.808) and a No. 24 national ranking according to United Soccer Coaches into their final non-conference game of the regular season Tuesday, Oct. 22, against Northern Kentucky at Rooney Field. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
