Basketball Tip-Off Event Set for October 17

Get ready for the 2024-25 season with exciting activities at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University Department of Athletics will host its 2024 Basketball Tip-Off Event Thursday, Oct. 17, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.

Duquesne University President Ken Gormley, J.D., will serve as keynote speaker, sharing his insights on the success of the men's and women's basketball program last year and the excitement for the 2024-25 season on the Bluff. Additional speakers included Duquesne Vice President of Athletics Dave Harper and head coaches Dru Joyce III and Dan Burt of the Duquesne men's and women's basketball programs, respectively.

Admission to the event is free for all fans and while RSVP is not required, it is strongly encouraged by using the following link. The 2024 Duquesne Basketball Tip-Off Event will include appetizers, a cash bar and Wigle Whiskey spirits tastings. Wigle Whiskey is a small-batch, craft whiskey distillery in the Strip District region of Pittsburgh and also has locations in Ross Park Mall and the North Shore.

To conclude the event, fans can take part in an autograph and photo session with both the Duquesne men's and women's basketball teams, presented by the Red & Blue Collective. Fans are welcome to bring their own items for the autograph session.

The Duquesne men's program is led by Joyce III, who is in his first season as head coach in 2024-25 after being named the 18th head coach in the 108-year history of the program March 28, 2024. The Dukes return two starters from a 2023-24 team that finished with an overall record of 25-12 (.676), earned its first automatic bid to the NCAA Championship since 1977 and posted its first win in the NCAA Tournament since 1969.

The Duquesne women's team is guided by Burt, who enters his 12th season as head coach in 2024-25 and 18th year overall with the program. He guided the Dukes to an overall mark of 21-13 (.618) last year and a spot in the 2024 Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT). Along the way last year, Burt earned his 100th career victory in the Atlantic 10 and 200th career win overall.
