Philadelphia, Pa. – Cameron Brown's layup with 0.3 seconds left helped lift Saint Joseph's to a 71-69 victory over the Duquesne University men's basketball team Saturday at Hagan Arena. The Dukes fell to 9-8 (.529) overall during the 2023-24 season, including 0-5 in the Atlantic 10.
POINTS OF EMPHASIS
Trailing, 69-67, with 13.5 seconds left and out of a timeout, forward
Matúŝ Hronský scampered into the paint and knocked down a turnaround jumper to tie the game for the eighth time. The Hawks followed with a timeout of their own with 5.6 ticks left on the clock to set up the final play. Out of the break, Lynn Greer III drove left before pulling up for a jumper that was short. Brown corralled the offensive rebound for the putback to help give Saint Joseph's the win.

Jake DiMichele helped keep it a one-possession game at halftime, scoring eight straight points to pull the Dukes to within 33-26 at the 4:20 mark of the first half. The Hawks owned their largest lead in the opening stanza, 29-18, after a pair of free throws from Christ Essandoko, who powered Saint Joseph's in the first 20 minutes with 15 points. FOO FIGHTERS
Drame hit the 1,000-point mark for his career in the first half against the Hawks. He knocked down both of his chances at the free-throw line with 47 seconds left before halftime, with his first giving him exactly 1,000 points during his NCAA Division I career. Drame spent three years at Saint Peter's from 2019 to 2022, scoring 597 points before adding 298 points last season at La Salle. Drame finished with nine points and four rebounds against the Hawks and owns 1,008 career points.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Essandoko, who entered Saturday's game averaging 6.9 points per game, produced a career afternoon for Saint Joseph's (12-6 / 2-3 A-10). He scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, converting seven of his 12 attempts from the field, including 3-for-4 from beyond the arc, while going 4-for-7 at the free-throw line. The Dukes were led by Clark III, who tied for game-high honors in scoring with 21 points, while DiMichele scored each of his 11 points in the first half. St. Joe's posted a 35-34 edge on the glass, with the offensive carom from Brown, just his second rebound of the game, providing the difference.
UP NEXT
Duquesne opens a three-game homestand at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse Tuesday, Jan. 23, with a 7:00 p.m. tip against St. Bonaventure. The Dukes will also host Fordham (Jan. 27) and Chicago State (Jan. 31) as part of their homestand.
