Buffalo, N.Y. – The Duquesne University swimming & diving team opened its 2023-24 spring schedule with a tri-meet at Buffalo with Marshall at the Alumni Arena Natatorium & Dorsi Raynolds Pool on Friday night.
The 200-yard medley relay opened the festivities at the tri-meet, with the team of
Haley Scholer,
Sydney Severini,
Julia Sobun, and
Natalia Fryckowska finishing third thanks to a time of 1:47.13. Freestyle competition followed as four Dukes competed in the 200-yard freestyle. Freshman Lexi Sundren finished second with a time of 1:54.39 and junior Egan Orla clocked in at 1:54.55 to take bronze. Orla continued her day in the 500-yard freestyle, where she took silver after posting a time of 5:04.51.
In the 100-yard butterfly, graduate student
Madeline Marks touched the wall with a time of 57:24 to finish fourth while freshman
Julia Sobun (58.46) and sophomore
Claudia Rzeznik (59.32) finished seventh and eighth respectively.
Four Dukes would participate in the 100-yard breaststroke as Severini tallied a time of 1:06.37 to register a fourth-place finish and senior
Abby Mele touched the wall at 1:06.58 to finish sixth. Followed by the 50-yard freestyle, sophomore
Kayla Johnson collected the silver by touching the wall at 24.17 as graduate student
Natalia Fryckowska posted a time of 24.66 to finish fifth.
The 100-yard backstroke was the eighth event of day one, where Scholer collected a second-place finish with a time of 57.07. Senior
Reagan Linkous (58.82) and junior
Hayley Taylor (59.52) registered sixth and seventh place finishes respectively.
The team of Sobun, Johnson, Sundgren, and Fryckowska collected the silver in the 200-yard freestyle relay while clocking a time of 1:36.92.
The Dukes wrap up the tri-meet with Buffalo and Marshall on Saturday, Jan. 13, with nine events on tap for the final day. The 400-medley relay with begin day two at 10:30 a.m.
