Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University bowling team concluded play in the Stormin Blue & White Vegas Classic Wednesday, finishing fifth in Las Vegas, Nev., at South Point.
The Dukes opened bracket play with a 4-3 setback to No. 7 Nebraska before dropping a 4-2 decision to No. 14 Maryland Eastern Shore. Wrapping up action for fifth place, Duquesne earned a 4-3 win over No. 4 Louisiana Tech. Overall during the 2023-24 season the Dukes own a record of 42-24 (.636).
The Cornhuskers and Dukes split the first two games of Baker play Wednesday before Nebraska grabbed a 3-1 lead thanks to a 189-171 win in game three and a 180-174 in game four. Duquesne rebounded to win the next two games, 189-178 and 215-209, respectively, to force a game seven, which Nebraska claimed with a 215-182 triumph.
Taking on the Hawks, the Dukes fell behind, 2-0, before rallying to win games three and four. UMES would take the match, 4-2, with a 220-190 win in game five and a 194-161 victory in game six.
In the final match of the day for fifth place, Duquesne claimed its third win of the year against a top five team with a 4-3 win over Louisiana Tech. The Bulldogs took game one, 224-175, before the Dukes rolled their best game of the day to earn a 278-223 win in game two. Louisiana Tech grabbed a 3-2 lead in the match after a 211-150 win in game five, but the Dukes rallied to win game six, 181-162, before securing the victory in the match with a 230-227 triumph in game seven.
