BRIDGEWATER, N.J. - Duquesne's
Ayden Garnes was named a Prime Performer by the Northeast Conference for Week 1 of the 2023 football season, announced today by the league office.
Garnes set the tone for the Dukes' 49-7 season-opening win over Edinboro Saturday afternoon at Rooney Field. Just two plays into the game, Garnes picked off an Edinboro pass and took it to the house for a 27-yard pick-six to get the season started. Garnes' INT energized the Dukes' defense, which recorded four takeaways in the first quarter and five total in the game. The Philadelphia native added a pass breakup, two tackles and half a TFL, as DU held the Fighting Scots to just 170 yards of total offense and a 1-for-13 effort on third downs.
Duquesne will hit the road for its next four games, including two FBS matchups over the next two weekends. This Saturday, the Dukes travel to West Virginia University for a 6 pm matchup in Morgantown.
