Felitsky, Read, and Scholer Named Scholar All-Americans

PITTSBURGH - The College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) released the 2023 Individual Scholar All-America team. The CSCAA recognized a total of 2,290 (1,270 women and 1,020 men) swimmers and divers as Scholar All-Americans for the 2022-23 season. Duquesne University's Amy Read was named first team, while Ashley Felitsky and Haley Scholer were tabbed second team.

Read, a 4.0 GPA student pursuing a graduate degree in communication, earns her third first-team CSCAA Scholar All-American honor of her career. This season, Read qualified for her fifth straight NCAA National Championships and was named the Atlantic 10 Diver of the Year. An A-10 All-Academic Team and CSC Academic All-District selection, Read was recently named one of 17 nominations for NCAA Woman of the Year from the A-10.

Felitsky owns a 3.94 GPA while studying business. The freshman from Cranberry, Pa had an impressive showing at her first-ever A-10 Championships, then went on to compete in the NCAA Division I Zone A Diving Qualifiers.

Scholer, a sophomore from Jamison, Pa., holds a 3.88 GPA as a marketing major on the Bluff. She set a new school record with a bronze-medal finish in the 200 back at the A-10 Championships, then finished in fifth and sixth in the 100 back and 200 IM, respectively. Scholer also competed in the 100 back, 200 back, 200 IM, and was a part of the 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay, and 200 free relay for the Dukes at the National Invitational Championships this past winter.

"Congratulations to these exceptional student-athletes who have demonstrated outstanding achievements both in the classroom and in their sport," said Executive Director, Samantha Barany.  "The CSCAA takes pride in recognizing individuals who excel in academics while competing at the highest level."

To be named to the First-Team Scholar All-America, student-athletes must achieve a minimum GPA of 3.50 and participate in their respective national championship. Second-Team selections also earned a GPA of 3.50 or higher and met the "B" time standard for the national championship or participated in a diving zone qualification meet. All criteria can be found on the CSCAA website.

More from Executive Director Barany: "Earning a 3.5 GPA or higher is a remarkable accomplishment requiring dedication, discipline, and a commitment to academic excellence. Furthermore, competing at the national level is a testament to their talent, dedication, and perseverance in the water.  These student-athletes have set themselves apart from their peers by excelling in both areas, showing their exceptional abilities and drive for excellence."

Founded in 1922, the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), is the nation's first organization of college coaches. The mission of the CSCAA is to advance the sport of swimming and diving with coaches at the epicenter of leadership, advocacy, and professional development.

The Dukes were also recently recognized as a Scholar All-America Team with a team GPA of 3.59, extending their decade-plus streak.
