BRIDGEWATER, N.J. - Redshirt junior linebacker
Khatavian Franks and graduate student wide receiver
DJ Powell, of Duquesne University football, have been named Prime Perfomers for Week 10 in the Northeast Conference.
Franks snagged his first career interception and took it back 31 yards for a fourth-quarter pick six to extend the Duquesne lead to 28-20. He also recorded a strip sack on the final play of the game, which the Dukes returned for a touchdown, to seal the deal. A Georgia Tech transfer and native of Fairburn, Ga., Franks is one of five players in the conference to have a pick-six this season joining teammate
Ayden Garnes, who charted one on the second play of the season against Edinboro.
Powell, a graduate transfer from Bethune Cookman, recorded his first 100+ yard receiving game as a Duke at Wagner with a game-high five catches for 111 yards and a long reception of 55 yards. Powell's five grabs tied his season-high. His 111 yards were the most by a receiver in the conference this week and brought his season total to over 600 yards on the season, the first receiver in the NEC to do so.Â
Duquesne clinched at least a share of its sixth NEC title with a 34-26 win at Wagner last week to improve to 5-0 in league play. The Dukes are a win away from securing the NEC's outright title and automatic bid to the NCAA FCS Playoffs. This Saturday, Duquesne hosts Stonehill for its final home game of the season and Senior Day. Kick off is slated for 12 pm at Rooney Field.
