Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University bowling team continued play in the Hawk Classic in Woodbridge, Va., Saturday at Bowl America Woodbridge, posting a record of 3-2 in traditional play to move to 6-4 overall during the three-day event. Overall during the 2023-24 season the Dukes own a record of 27-16 (.628).
A day after recording its first perfect game in Baker play in eight years as an NCAA Division I program, Duquesne posted two of its three highest scores in program history in traditional play. The Dukes earned a 1,179-950 win over Bryant as well as a 1,174-1046 triumph over No. 6 Youngstown State, with the pin totals ranking second and third, respectively, in the Duquesne record book. The only score better for the Dukes came against No. 20 LIU at the 2022 Northeast Conference (NEC) Championships in a 1,209-1,065 victory.
The Dukes also earned a 1,119-895 win over Wilmington and fell to No. 1 Vanderbilt, 1,128-1,000, and No. 20 Wisconsin-Whitewater, 1,076-1,008. Duquesne currently sits fifth overall in total pins after two days of the Hawk Classic with 10,641, which equates to an average score of 212.8.
Individually, a pair of Dukes sit in the top five. Junior
Morgan Brookover owns 1,165 pins and an average score of 233.00, which ranks second and is just 17 pins behind Norma Romero Alarid of Central Missouri, who leads the field. Brookover has eclipsed 200 in each of her five games, including a 254 against Wilmington and a 266 against Bryant.
Graduate student
Kiearra Saldi sits third individually, just 10 pins behind Brookover at 1,155, an average score of 231.00. She opened with a 257 against the Wildcats and carded a 259 against Youngstown State. Freshman
Maribeth Baker ranks 11th for Duquesne with 1,120 pins and an average score of 224.00.
The Hawk Classic concludes Sunday, Nov. 19, at Bowl America Woodbridge. Play begins with another qualifying team match in traditional play before moving onto bracket play.
