Duquesne Goes 4-3 at First of Three NEC Competitions

Brookover earns top individual honor for Dukes

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University bowling team took part in its first of three Northeast Conference (NEC) competitions this weekend, posting a record of 4-3 (.571) in North Brunswick, N.J., at Bowlero North Brunswick. The Dukes own an overall record of 21-12 (.636) through three competitions of the 2023-24 season.
 
Saturday the Dukes finished 2-1, falling to Saint Francis U, 896-885, to open traditional play before earning a 1,015-845 win over Niagara and a 947-878 triumph over LIU. The next day Duquesne went 2-2, posting a 991-829 victory over No. 15 Fairleigh Dickinson and an 841-699 win over Wagner before closing out traditional play with a 1,052-874 loss to No. 24 Merrimack and a 944-894 setback to No. 17 Sacred Heart.
 
Leading the way for the Dukes was junior Morgan Brookover, who claimed top individual honors. Over the course of the seven games, Brookover tallied 1,422 total pins, 26 more than Olivia Lampkin of Merrimack. Brookover averaged 203.14 for the weekend, including games of 256, 235 and 236.
 
Senior Shannon Small and freshman Maribeth Baker also garnered top 10 finishes for Duquesne. Small opened with a 201 and compiled 1,351 total pins (193.00), while Baker finished with 1,340 total pins and a 191.43 average. The trio of Brookover, Small and Baker were the only Dukes to compete in all seven games.
 
Both Merrimack and Sacred Heart each finished 6-1 (.857) at the first NEC competition, followed by the Red Flash at 5-2 (.714). The Pioneers posted the highest pin total (6,526), followed by SFU (6,518), Duquesne (6,447) and Merrimack (6,380).
 
The Dukes are back in action this week, traveling to Woodbridge, Va., to take part in the Hawk Classic at Bowl America Woodbridge. The event is hosted by Maryland Eastern Shore and the first of three days of competition begins Friday, Nov. 17.
