Pittsburgh, Pa. – On the back of a prime defensive effort and the sixth shoutout of the season from
Maddy Neundorfer, the Duquesne University women's soccer team finished in a scoreless draw with Saint Joseph's at Sweeney Field Saturday afternoon.
The Dukes own an overall record of 5-5-3 (.500) during the 2023 season and remain without a loss in Atlantic 10 play at 2-0-4 (.700). It marks the first time in program history the Duquesne are unbeatean through six conference matches.
The Dukes outshot the Hawks, 5-3, in the first half but the first goal eluded either side.
The Dukes did, however, run into some foul trouble early on with yellow cards from
Margey Brown and
Eva LaVecchia.
Despite the cards and possession giving favor to the Hawks, Duquesne would come out swinging in the second half, peppering five shots, including four on goal, but each were saved by SJU's keeper Katie Cappelletti, keeping the game scoreless.
Margey Brown led the way for the offensive pressure in the second half for the Dukes, firing both of her shots on goal.
The defense led the way to a draw today with all four of the defenders, including LaVecchia,
Lindsay Krafchick,
Karley Steinher and
Anna Campanella, playing all 90 minutes of the game along with Neundorfer.
Neundorfer made two saves to get Duquesne's seventh shutout of the season, including her sixth of the year.
Duquesne returns home home for the start of a two-game homestand Thursday against George Washington. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. at Rooney Field.
