Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University bowling team continued play in the Sunshine State Classic Saturday in Orlando, Fla., at AMF Sky Lanes, recording a mark of 4-1 (.800) in traditional play. The Dukes improved to 16-7 (.696) overall during the 2023-24 campaign with their performance Saturday.
Opening play in the second day of competition with a 975-922 win over Sacred Heart, the Dukes followed by picking up their third win against a ranked opponent in the Sunshine State Classic. Duquesne earned a 1,069-939 victory over No. 22 Tulane. Stephen F. Austin, ranked No. 5 in the country, earned a 1,098-999 win for the only blemish of the day before Duquesne rebounded to grab victories over Daeman (1,019-851) and Monmouth (1,072-881).
Shannon Small sits eighth individually after two days of action to lead the Dukes. In five games she has compiled 1,090 total pins, an average of 218.0, including a 257 in game two.
Kiearra Saldi has added 1,077 total pins in the Sunshine State Classic, including a score 245 in game five, and is averaging 215.4.
Duquesne sits fifth overall entering the final day of action Sunday with 10,097 total pins. Leading the pack is Stephen F. Austin, which is 10-0 and has accumulated 10,588 pins. The Dukes were bolstered by 5,134 total pins in traditional play Saturday.
The Dukes will square off with No. 2 Arkansas State for a second time during the tournament Sunday to open their final day of the Sunshine State Classic. The Red Wolves earned a 977-945 win over Duquesne Friday in Baker play.
