CHICAGO -- Duquesne volleyball fell to fellow Atlantic 10 member Loyola Chicago in three sets on Friday at Gentile Arena.
Duquesne (10-11, 5-8) battled Loyola (13-11, 11-2) to extra points in two of the three sets, but was unable rally late. Carsyn Henschen posted a match-high 15 kills, while Chloe Wilmot secured her 10th double-double of her freshman campaign with 39 assists, which led all players, and 11 digs.
Morgan Gish added 10 kills from the outside and Avery Hobson paced the DU back line with 15 digs.
Duquesne dropped the opening set, 27-25. Despite trailing 17-14 late, DU came back to tie the game at 20 apiece. Henschen capped off the run with three straight kills. The teams traded the next 10 rallies before back-to-back Rambler kills hit the hardwood to give them the 1-0 match lead.
The Dukes hopped out to an 8-5 lead in set two, but an 8-1 run for Loyola gave the Ramblers a lead they wouldn't drop rolling to a 25-18 victory to go up two games.
In the decisive third set, Duquesne led 22-20 looking to extend the match, but Loyola won three straight rallies to take the lead. The Dukes did not back down forcing extra points for the second time in the match. DU had two separate set points but were unable to close it out before falling 28-26.
The Dukes won't have to wait long for a rematch, as the two teams will play again at 3 pm (ET) / 2 pm (CT) tomorrow. Duquesne is 2-2 this season on the day after a loss. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
