HOW IT HAPPENED
Duquesne and SFU kept it close the entire way through the first set. This set included a hefty 15 ties, but SFU ended up being the team finding a two-point lead at the end.
The second set was close as well, but Duquesne was able to hold a lead by a couple points for most of the set. The difference in this set ended up being attack errors – Duquesne ended with three while SFU had 12.
The third set started out just like the first two, back-and-forth between the two teams, until about halfway through. The set was tied at 14 before SFU went on an 8-1 run. That was pretty much all Saint Francis needed as it went on to win the third set 25-19.
The Dukes bounced back in a big way in the fourth set to force a fifth. They jumped out to an 8-4 lead and never let the Red Flash get closer than three the rest of the way. Duquesne controlled this set all the way through. It out-blocked SFU 5-0 and while SFU had nine attack errors compared to just two by Duquesne.
In the final set, the Dukes were able to jump out to a 9-6 lead, but unfortunately, they were unable to close this one out. SFU outscore Duquesne 9-4 the rest of the way, led by Korrin Burns who had 24 kills on the night.
