Rodriguez-Shaw establishes season-high in goals

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Duquesne lacrosse team was defeated 23-14 by Davidson Friday evening in an Atlantic 10 match at Richardson Field.

The Dukes (3-9, 0-5 A-10) were led by a season-high five goals from freshman Delaney Rodriguez-Shaw. She also tallied an assist to give her five points on the night. She now leads the team with 27 goals and eight assists.

Tina St. Clair scored four goals, Sam King added three, while Alana Piano totaled two goals, four groundballs, three caused turnovers and four draw controls.

Davidson (10-2, 4-1 A-10) opened up a 6-1 lead by the 3:17-mark of the first quarter. Duquesne notched three-straight goals to close out the period and scored in the opening minute of the second quarter to slice the deficit to 6-5 with 14:16 to play until halftime.

Back-to-back goals by St. Clair brought the Dukes all the way back to even at 7-7 with 7:13 to play in the second quarter, but two-straight Davidson goals to end the half made the score 9-7 at halftime.

After a Rodriguez-Shaw goal in the opening minute of the third quarter made the score 9-8, Davidson went on a 7-1 scoring run to build a 16-9 lead with 2:10 to play in the third quarter. The Dukes were able to get the deficit down to six, 17-11, on a St. Clair goal early in the fourth quarter, but Davidson did not allow Duquesne to get any closer.

Duquesne out-shot Davidson 34 to 31 and forced 19 turnovers, compared to the 14 caused by the Wildcats.

Gianna New led the Wildcats with five goals and an assist, while Erin Cooke, the A-10 leader in assists, finished with three goals and four assists (seven points). Davidson goalie Amanada Monahan made 15 saves.
