PITTSBURGH - Duquesne cut a 21-point second-half deficit to four, but couldn't completely close he gap as Marshall (8-1) held on to extend its win streak to eight with a 82-71 win over Duquesne (7-2) on Thursday night at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.
Jimmy Clark III scored 16 of his career-high 19 points in the second half for Duquesne, which saw its win streak snapped at six.Â
Dae Dae Grant added 18 for the Dukes.
Tre Williams (12) and
Austin Rotroff (11) contributed double-digit rebounds for DU.
Taevion Kinsey led Marshall with 19 points, seven assists and three steals.
There were three ties and four lead changes before Marshall held the Dukes scoreless for a two-plus minute span to build a 24-18 lead. The Herd led by three before Kinsey began a half-ending 16-0 run with a layup and a jumper.
Duquesne committed six of its 14 first-half turnovers during the run that ended with Marshall up 46-27 at the horn.
Marshall scored the first basket of the second half to take a brief 21-point lead before Clark III caught fire, scoring DU's first 12 points of the half - including a pair of 3-pointers. Grant added a deep 3-pointer to make it 50-42 at the under 16 timeout.
Duquesne pulled to within six at 50-44 on Clark III floater before Marshall ended a 12-0 DU run with a bucket.
The Herd built their lead back to 11 at 61-49 with 9:23 to go, but the Dukes wouldn't quit, cutting it to five on a Grant 3-pointer with 6:24 remaining.
Tevin Brewer made it 63-59 with another 3-pointer at the five-minute mark, but Marshall once again gained a little separation on a Kinsey reverse layup that made it 67-59.
DU got a 3-pointer from Grant and a bucket from
Joe Reece to make it a five point game once again at 70-65. Brewer missed the front end of a one-and-one and Grant misfired on a 3-point attempt before Marshall's Andrew Taylor completed a three-point play to make it 73-65 with 1:55 left.
Marshall, which outscored Duquesne 22-8 off turnovers, outshot the Dukes 47.2 percent to 34.2 percent.

Duquesne hosts New Mexico State (4-3) on Sunday, Dec. 11 at 4:00 p.m. (ESPN+).

- Duquesne, which had 14 turnovers in the first half, had just three the final 20 minutes. Marshall, which finished with just nine miscues, outscored the Dukes 22-8 off turnovers. DU entered the game averaging 11.0 turnovers per game.
- Marshall outscored Duquesne 46-22 in the paint and 18-5 in fast break points.
- Jimmy Clark III's previous scoring high was 16, set in DU's previous game vs. Ball State.
