PLUM, PA. – Duquesne (21-10) topped the 1000-pin mark four times in seven matches on its way to a first place finish at NEC Meet #1 on Saturday/Sunday at Nesbits Lanes in nearby Plum, Pa.
The Dukes went 6-1 in amassing a 6,834 pin total (194.3) in the seven-round total baker pinfall formatted event.
Duquesne, ranked 13th nationally, opened with a 967-875 win over #22 LIU and followed that with a 934-853 victory over Wagner. The Dukes posted their high weekend total in a 1103-1045 win over Merrimack, befor dropping Saturday's final match, 863-1086 to #10 Fairleigh Dickinson.
Sunday began with a 964-830 win over Saint Francis U and 1002-919 decision over St. Francis Brooklyn. In Sunday's final match, the Dukes were down 91 pins to #16 Sacred Heart before posting a 247-139 win in game five to take the match 1001-984.
DU will be back at it next weekend when it heads to Millsboro, Del. for the three-day Hawk Classic Invitational at Millsboro Lanes on Nov. 18-20.
