NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Duquesne University women's swimmer
Kayla Johnson (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) was named the Atlantic 10 Women's Swimming and Diving Rookie of the Week announced the league office Tuesday afternoon.
Johnson placed top-3 in four events for the Dukes against Richmond and George Mason. She swam first in the 100-free (51.91), while placing second in the 50-free (23.60) against George Mason, 50-free (23.87) against Richmond, and 100-free (52.60).
Johnson is the first Duquesne swimmer since
Sidney O'Donnell in 2020 to earn the rookie award. O'Donnell earned the honor twice that season.
Johnson and the rest of the Dukes will return to the pool this Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 29-30 when they head to Geneva, Ohio for the A-10 Invite.
