The Duquesne swimming and diving team returns to action on Saturday afternoon at Clarion for the final tune-up of the season before the 2021 Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championship. Saturday's action is slated to get underway at noon ET from Tippin Natatorium.
SCOUTING THE DUKES
- Duquesne is coming off a pair of victories over Saint Francis U, one at Towers Pool and one on the road in Loretto.
- The Dukes posted a 151-97 triumph over the Red Flash on March 12 at Stokes Natatorium, with Audrey Steen (San Pedro, Calif. / San Pedro) registering a team-high four first-place finishes for Duquesne. The junior won the 100 fly (57.99), 200 fly (2:09.30), 200 medley relay team (1:47.70) and 400 free relay (3:36.30).
- Freshman Leah Reisker (Gainesville, Fla. / F.W. Buchholz) won the 100 free with a mark of 53.83, giving her a total of three first-place finishes at the meet in addition to the 200 medley relay (1:47.70) and 400 free relay (3:36.30).
- Laura Goettler (Butler, Pa. / Butler) won 100 breast with a time of 1:05.89 as well as the 200 medley relay while Mara Voytek (Valley View, Ohio / Cuyahoga Heights) finished first in the 200 IM at 2:12.33 and the 200 medley relay for Duquesne.
- Hanna Everhart (Bloomsburg, Pa. / Bloomsburg Area) paced the 200 free at 1:56.75 for the Dukes for her second first-place mark of the evening following the 400 free relay.
- Duquesne now owns a 15-2 advantage in the all-time series against Saint Francis, including 11 straight victories.
- Duquesne head swimming & diving coach David Sheets graduated from Clarion in 1994 and helped the Golden Eagles to a PSAC Championship in 1992 as well as runner-up finishes in 1990, 1991 and 1993. He won PSAC gold medals in the 100 and 200 backstroke in 1992 followed by the 200 back as well as the 200 individual medley in 1993. In total, Sheets garnered four individual and five relay conference titles as well as a third and fifth place finishes in the 200 and 100 backstroke events, respectively at the 1993 NCAA Championships for Clarion.
- He began his coaching career in 1993 as a student-assistant swimming coach at Clarion.
- The Dukes are facing the Golden Eagles for the first time since 2012. Duquesne has won six-straight over Clarion.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES
- Clarion is 1-2 in dual meet action on the season, defeating Edinboro and dropping a pair of meets to Indiana (Pa.) and Gannon.
- The Golden Eagles last competed in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Virtual Series March 13-14. Senior Ava Arnold led Clarion in the 400 IM while also leading off the 200 medley and 400 free relays.
- Clarion will host another PSAC Virtual Meet before competing at the PSAC Championship in York, Pa. on April 21-24.
- The Golden Eagles are coached by Brehan Kelley, who is in her third season at the helm of the Clarion program.
