Ninth-ranked Duquesne went 1-2 in finishing third at the NEC Championship over the weekend.
The Dukes, who entered the event as the No. 2 seed, defeated 13th-ranked Sacred Heart, 2-1 in Friday's opening round mega match. DU fell, 987-1098 in the traditional match before rallying to take the quint baker (1079-1013) and best-of-seven matches (4-2) to advance.
DU faced top-seed No. 7 ranked Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday morning and suffered a 946-1005 defeat in the traditional match and a 1035-1135 loss in the quint baker. The Dukes dropped into the loser's bracket to face Sacred Heart once again, but this time came up short in both the traditional (873-1053) and quint baker matches (858-1016) to finish third.
FDU went on to defeat Sacred Heart in the final match to earn the
NEC's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championship.
Duquesne, which was ranked fourth in the Mar. 17
NCAA RPI, will now await the selection process for both the NCAA Championship and United States Bowling Congress sectionals.
The NCAA Women's bowling selection show, which will air on NCAA.com, is set for March 31 at 4:00 p.m. ET.
The USBC will also announce its sectional assignments on March 31.
The NCAA Championship is scheduled for April 7-10 in Kansas City and ITC Sectionals will occur April 16-18 at a location to be determined. Â
