Box Score PITTSBURGH - Duquesne (1-8, 1-8 A10) concluded its abbreviated spring season with a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Atlantic 10 preseason favorite Dayton (9-1, 6-1) on Saturday afternoon at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.
The Dukes, who were the last team to take a set from the Flyers in five matches dating back to Feb. 26, battled to the end, falling 26-24 in the final set (17-25, 10-25, 24-26).
Anita Parrott led DU with nine kills, while senior
Maria Mosbacher had eight kills in her final match. Parrot hit .571 on the afternoon.
Hailey Poling had 20 assists and
Ashley Larson added eight digs for DU.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Dayton opened the match with a kill and ace by Amelia Moore in building a 4-0 lead. Duquesne cut it to 5-3 on a Flyers setting error. A soft-touch kill by DU's Summer Slade made it 10-5. The Dukes scored another point off a Slade serve to make it 10-6. Dayton's third service error made it 11-7. DU cut it to 12-8 on a UD attack error when Dayton called its first timeout. Dayton's fifth service error made it 15-10. A kill and ace gave Dayton an 18-10 lead as the Dukes used their first timeout. An outstanding dig by Brittne Weigand enabled DU to make it 18-11 on a Slade kill. Dayton scored the next three points to take a 10-point lead. DU staved off five set points beginning with a pair of Maria Mosbacher kills to make it 24-17 before Dayton closed out the set.

- Dayton reeled off five-straight points after a 2-2 start before the Dukes made it 7-3 on a Nicolette Jones kill. A Mosbacher kill followed by a Flyers' bad set made it 9-6. Another Mosbacher kill followed by a UD attack error pulled the Dukes within two at 10-8. The Flyers scored the next four points to take a 14-8 lead as Duquesne called timeout. Dayton then scored the next five as DU called another timeout with the score 19-8. DU could only manage an Anita Parrott kill and Weigand ace the rest of the way.

- Neither team led by more than two in the third set until Duquesne scored five points in a row to take 9-6 lead on a Camryn Thomas ace. DU made it seven straight on a Dayton attack error and Parrott kill to make it 11-6 and force the Flyers to call a timeout. Seven of the Dukes' first 11 points came via kills from six players. Dayton ended the DU run with five-straight points to make it 11-11 as DU used its first timeout. DU ended the run with a Parrott kill. The match once again tightened up with neither team leading by more than two until Dayton went up 19-16 on back-to-back kills. DU answered with a couple of Mosbacher kills to make it 20-18 Dayton. The Dukes tied it at 20-20 on a Poling ace. DU called a timeout down 22-20 before rallying to tie it on a Parrott kill. The set was tied at 24-24 before the Flyers scored the next two to take the match.
