Dukes make quick turnaround to face Billikens on Sunday

Duquesne (1-1-1), coming off a 1-0 home win over St. Bonaventure on Thursday night, heads to Missouri to face #22 Saint Louis (7-1, 2-0) on Sunday at Noon ET (ESPN+).

This is the first of three meetings between the Dukes and Billikens who will meet in Pittsburgh on April 1 & 4.

THE SPRING SEASON
  • The Atlantic 10 has been split into three divisions for conference play. The North Division consists of Fordham, La Salle, UMass, Rhode Island and Saint Joseph's and the South Division is made up of Davidson, George Mason, George Washington, Richmond and VCU.
  • Duquesne, which is in the lone four-team division, will play three games against St. Bonaventure, three against Saint Louis and two against Dayton.
  • The Dukes were picked to finish ninth out of 14 teams in the A-10 Preseason Coaches' Poll, Saint Louis was picked first, Dayton fourth and St. Bonaventure 13th.

THE SERIES VS. SAINT LOUIS
  • Saint Louis leads the series 6-3-0, including a 5-1-0 advantage in matches at SLU..
  • The two have split the past six meetings, however SLU has taken three of the past four.
  • Head coach Al Alvine is 1-3 vs. the Billikens
  • SLU has won the past three meetings in Saint Louis.

LAST GAME
  • Deena DeBaldo's goal in the second minute stood as the Dukes went on to defeat St. Bonaventure 1-0 in a steady rain at Rooney Field.
  • Megan Virgin was credited with three saves in posting the shutout.
  • The Dukes outshot the Bonnies 21-5, including 11-3 on goal.
  • DU had five corners to zero for SBU.
  • DeBaldo had a match high seven shots including four on goal. Lexy Kendro had five shots with three on net.
     
SCOUTING THE DUKES
  • Duquesne played one non-conference match (a 3-0 loss at Pitt on March 7), while Saint Louis played six non-league games.
  • The Dukes graduated one player from last year's 6-8-3 team. DU's entire offense of 22 goals, 15 assists and 59 points is back.
  • Atlantic 10 Second Team selection senior Deena DeBaldo is back after netting a team-high nine goals last season. DeBaldo current ranks 11th all-time in career points and goals (see below). 
  • Sophomore Jaimi Araujo had 10 points, including four goals in 2019.
  • Megan Virgin returns after starting all 17 games in net for Duquesne last season.
  • Head coach Al Alvine, who has led the Dukes to an A-10 postseason appearance in four of the last five seasons, is in his ninth year at DU. Alvine led DU to the program's first A-10 Championship in 2015. He is in his 19th season as a head coach overall.

  • SLU won on a golden goal by Abbie Miller in the 107th minute. It was Miller's second goal of the match (59').
  • Saint Louis won its previous game, 1-0 over St. Bonaventure, on a golden goal with five seconds left in the second overtime.
