PITTSBURGH - Duquesne senior midfielder
Deena DeBaldo's goal in the second minute of action helped the Dukes earn their first victory of the season with a 1-0 triumph over visiting St. Bonaventure on a rainy Thursday afternoon at Arthur J. Rooney Field.
Duquesne improves to 1-1-1 on the year with the win while the Bonnies fall to 0-2-0.
Just 1:36 into the contest,
Alex Saturni found DeBaldo on the right side of the box, who used a right-footed strike to beat St. Bonaventure goalkeeper Mackenzie Nolan into the back of the net.
The Dukes controlled possession for most of the opening frame, limiting the Bonnies to just one shot in first 45 minutes of play.
In the second half, St. Bonaventure had a good scoring chance in the 68th minute, but Duquesne goalkeeper
Megan Virgin made a leaping stop to shut the door on the Bonnies.
Duquesne held a 21-5 shooting advantage in the contest, including an 11-3 edge on shots on goal. The Dukes finished with five corner kicks while St. Bonaventure did not record any.
DeBaldo tallied seven shots with four on goal.
Lexy Kendro added five shots with three coming on goal for Duquesne.
Virgin made three saves in the win for the Dukes.
With the goal, DeBaldo has now registered 34 points and 13 goals, both one shy entering the top 10 all-time lists in Duquesne program history.
Since the start of the 2018 season, the Dukes are 13-2-4 at Rooney Field.
