PREVIEW: Women's Soccer vs. George Washington

Dukes to honor 13 seniors prior to kickoff

PITTSBURGH – The Duquesne women's soccer team (4-8-2, 2-5-1 A-10) will close out the home portion of its schedule on Thursday, Oct. 21 when it welcomes George Washington (2-12-2, 2-6-0 A-10) to Rooney Field on Senior Night.
 
Senior Night festivities will commence about 15 minutes prior to the 7 p.m. kickoff. The match itself will broadcast on ESPN+.

  • Ashley Rodriguez converted her second penalty-kick goal of the season in the team's 2-1 loss to La Salle last Thursday.
  • She is fifth on the team with two goals and is another player who has started all 13 games. Rodriguez leads the team 1,303 minutes played this season.
  • Emma Bundy scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season and added an assist on the game-winning goal in the team's victory over Saint Louis on Sept. 23.

DUQUESNE HEAD COACH AL ALVINE (Robert Morris '92)
  • Al Alvine is in his 10th season as the head coach of the Dukes in 2021.
  • The Dukes' all-time winningest coach boasts a record of 70-82-22 on the Bluff and 35-46-10 in Atlantic 10 play. His career mark stands at 199-145-42.
  • Alvine inherited a three-win team prior to the 2012 season and quadrupled that total in four years.
  • He set a program record with 12 victories in 2015 – which included the program's first-ever A-10 Championship and NCAA Tournament bid.
  • His teams have totaled 11 or more wins three times during his tenure.
  • Alvine has coached four First-Team and three Second-Team All-Atlantic 10 picks, including 2017 A-10 Midfielder of the Year Linnea Faccenda.
  • He was named the fifth head coach in Duquesne women's soccer history on December 29, 2011.
  • Alvine came to the Bluff after spending five seasons as head coach at California University of Pennsylvania, where he went 73-28-11 – including a 38-2-6 mark over his final two seasons with the Vulcans.

  • George Washington enters the match 2-12-2 overall, with a 2-6-0 mark in A-10 play.
  • GW is 0-9-1 in road matches this season, which includes eight-straight losses when traveling.
  • The Colonials are coming off of a 2-0 win over Saint Joseph's that snapped a four-match skid.
  • Alicia Window scored early in the second half to help propel GW to the victory,
  • It was her third goal in two games. She scored twice in the opening three minutes in the Colonials' 4-2 loss to Dayton earlier in the week.
  • Window was named the A-10 Rookie of the Week for her efforts.

  • Michelle Demko is in her fourth season as the Colonials' Head Coach.
  • She has posted an overall record of 32-27-8 while leading GW.
  • Demko led the Colonials to a 14-3-4 record and a 7-1-2 mark in A-10 play in 2019.
