WINTER PARK, Fla. - The Duquesne rowing team capped its annual spring break trip to Florida competing in the Metro Cup on Lake Maitland against UCF, Villanova and Rollins.
The five-time defending American Athletic Conference (AAC) champion UCF Knights swept all five events at the race, capturing the Robin Yeuell Trophy.
The Dukes' varsity eight posted a third-place finish at 6:41.2 while the freshman/novice eight recorded a second-place mark of 7:34.7 in front of Villanova. Duquesne's second varsity eight placed fourth (7:24.4), varsity four finished fifth (8:11.4) and the Dukes' third varsity eight garnered a third-place mark (7:40.4).
Head coach Jenn Langzettel: "Our results were a little disappointing, but as a team we continue to identify where we will continue to improve and what we will build upon from this experience. We have only started the scratch the surface of the capability of this team. Everyone worked incredibly hard throughout the week of training and race day got the best of us. We are looking forward to getting back to work on the Allegheny and building to our next competition on March 29 at the Occoquan Sprints."
