PITTSBURGH - Duquesne is set to make the short commute up Forbes Ave. from The Bluff to Oakland for the 2020 Western Pennsylvania Invitational hosted by Pitt at Trees Pool on Friday, Jan. 24 and Saturday, Jan. 25. The Dukes divers will compete on Friday at 1 p.m. with swimming taking place on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. Both days will be streamed live via ACC Network Xtra.
Duquesne will square off with the host Panthers, Carnegie Mellon, California (Pa.), Clarion and St. Francis U at the meet.Â
The Dukes are coming off their seventh-straight dual win with a 149-113 victory over visiting Saint Francis U last Saturday at Towers Pool. Duquesne celebrated senior day with the win, highlighted by three first-place finishes byÂ
Carson Gross (York, Pa. / York Suburban) in the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.82), 500-yard freestyle (5:09.86) and 200-yard freestyle relay (1:39.96) while
Erin Kuhn won both the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.85) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:28.51) for the Dukes.Â
The Duquesne divers were last in action on Saturday, Jan. 11 in a dual victory over Marshall, when freshman
Sidney O'Donnell (Solon, Ohio / Solon) won both the 1-meter dive (257.40) and 3-meter dive (257.03) for Duquesne. For her performance, she became the second Dukes freshman to be named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week this season.Â
At last year's Western PA Invite, Gross and
Hanna Everhart (Bloomsburg, Pa. / Bloomsburg Area) were part of Duquesne's  200-yard freestyle relay (1:38.84) team which placed third in the event
The Dukes' 200-yard medley relay team including
Emma Brinton (Landenberg, Pa. / Avon Grove) and Gross also placed third (1:48.50) in the event while Duquesne added four fourth-place marks by
Lauren Devorace (Rocky River, Ohio / Rocky River)Â in the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.96), Brinton in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.25), Gross in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:27.54) and
Sophia Perez (Chapel Hill, N.C. / East Chapel Hill)Â in the 100-yard butterfly (59.52).
Perez also placed fifth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.43) while Everhart finished fifth in the 100-yard backstroke (59.58) and Brinton added a fifth-place showing in the 100-yard freestyle (54.43) for the Dukes.
