@DuqWSoccer Faces Tough Test in No. 14 NC State on Sunday

PITTSBURGH – The Duquesne women's soccer team (1-1-2) will look to build off momentum of last week's thrilling double-overtime victory, when the Dukes battle No. 17 NC State (2-1) on Sunday in Raleigh. The game is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. at Dail Soccer Field, and will be broadcasted on ACC Network Extra.

THE SERIES
  • The Dukes will meet the Wolfpack for the first time in program history on Sunday.
  • Against the current iteration of the Atlantic Coastal Conference, the Dukes have put together a 6-14-1 combined record, earning wins over Virginia Tech (2-2-1) and Pitt (4-10).
QUICK HITS
  • The Dukes are coming off of its first win of the season last Sunday, as Lauren Bell struck the game winning goal in the 100th minute against Lehigh to prevent a third consecutive tie.
  • The golden goal earned Bell the Atlantic 10 Co-Offensive Player of the Week, while goalkeeper Megan Virgin earned defensive player of the week honors from the conference after allowing just two goals in 210 minutes of action against the Mountain Hawks and Appalachian State. On the week she made nine saves, and allowed just five goals through four games as a Duke.
  • Bell is the first Duke to be honored as an A-10 Offensive Player of the Week since Katie O'Connor earned the honor on October 2, 2017.
  • Virgin's high school teammate and former Duquesne goalkeeper, Kyra Murphy '19, was the last Duke to be named A-10 Defensive Player of the Week (September 4, 2018).
  • Bell (1g)Denna DeBaldo (2g) and Alex Saturni (1g) have registered goals for the team so far in 2019. Sydney Routch and Ashley Rodriguez have each tallied an assist.  
  • The Wolfpack will be the second ranked opponent the Dukes have faced this season. Duquesne dropped a 2-0 decision to No. 11 West Virginia in the season opener. The Dukes allowed just five shots on goal in the contest.
  • NC State enters the contest with a 2-1 record, falling to No. 15 South Carolina by a 2-1 score in the opener. The Wolfpack defeated No. 7 Georgetown, 3-1 in the next contest, before earning a 1-0 victory over Monmouth in its latest match.
  • Tziarra King and Kristina Schuster each have posted two goals to lead the offense for the Wolfpack, while Jessica Berlin has allowed just three goals in three games this season.
